A member of the Myrtle Beach Yacht Club organization, in South Carolina, died after a brutal attack by an 11-foot alligator on Friday.

The alligator grabbed a hold of the individual and dragged them into a retention pond, stated the Horry County Fire Rescue.

The unidentified person’s body was later found. Afterwards, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources officials decided that the alligator should be euthanized at the location.

Horry County Police Department’s Environmental Services and Criminal Investigations Division will continue to investigate the matter.

Last month, one resident discussed seeing three alligators in his backyard in the private golf community. One was said to be about 12 feet.

Reports indicate that the increase in alligator attacks is because of the rise in the alligator population and people.
