19 people were discovered inside a one bedroom apartment in southwest Houston Wednesday afternoon. Authorities are now investigating.
HPD received a call about a possible human smuggling operation on the 6400 block of Gessner. When officers came to the location, they discovered 19 men and women. There were also unaccompanied minors ages 13 and 16 residing inside of the one-bedroom apartment.
Authorities said the residence had no furniture, and the people were living in “deplorable conditions.”
“Nobody appeared to need immediate medical attention, and nobody was immediately claiming injury. As we know from dealing with these situations, folks in that position don’t always immediately make an outcry. So we’ve brought our victim services division to the scene to see what they may be able to do to help these people,” aid HPD Asst. Chief Michael Skillern.
The department indicated that the apartment had only been occupied for two weeks.
No arrest have occurred, authorities said.
