Investigators in South Africa are investigating the deaths of 22 teenagers who all died suspiciously in a nightclub. They had been celebrating the end of their final exams.
The teens’ bodies had been discovered inside of Enyobeni Tavern in East London, a city in Eastern Cape, on Sunday morning. No visible wounds or signs of being injured could be observed.
Authorities say that the teens ranged in ages from 13 to 17. They were found lying on tables, slumped over chairs, and scattered on the floor of the establishment. The cause of their deaths is being investigated.
Those who survived the ordeal reportedly smelled a scent that was strong and suffocating.
Forensic samples taken from the men have been sent to a toxicology lab in Cape Town. This seems to mean that authorities want to see if the victims had consumed poison or some other toxin. This could have been done through hookah pipes or alcohol.
Many other teenagers were dead when police arrived to the location. Two others passed away at a clinic, one died on the way to a medical facility, and another died at a hospital.
