A young man has died while in police custody a week after being booked into the Dallas County Jail.
Shamond Lewis was taken to the Lew Sterrett Justice Center in Dallas on September 22nd and booked in on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge.
According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, the 24-year-old had a “medical episode” at the jail and was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital.
He was pronounced deceased a few days later on September 30 at the hospital.
No further information regarding the case has been released.
The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation.
