On Monday, three Tyler ISD middle school students were transported to the hospital by their parents. The Texas school district is now warning parents and students of what could happen when taking part in social media’s, ‘One Chip Challenge.’

The challenge involves daring individuals to eat a chip that has been covered in Carolina Reaper and ghost seasoning. These are the hottest peppers in the world. The challenge is not just about consuming the chip but also not washing it down with a liquid for an extended amount of time.

The district has now requested that parents discuss the dangers of this challenge with their children.

“Warning: There is a ‘One Chip Challenge’ circulating on social media across the country. Monday, three of our middle school students were taken to the hospital by their parents due to a severe reaction after attempting the One Chip Challenge…Many people experience severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and difficulty breathing for more than a day. It can lead to serious health complications. Parents, PLEASE talk with your children about the dangers of this challenge,” a statement read.

Rachel Barber, the Director of Health Services, commented on the matter. She said this challenge could result in great bodily injury, seizures, poisoning, a coma, or even death.

The ‘One Chip Challenge’ has been around for years and can lead to life-long health issues.
