An 85-year-old woman lost her life after being attacked by an alligator in Fort Pierce, Florida.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon on Aguila Ave.

Wildlife officials noted that Gloria Serge had been walking her dog, close to a retention pond, in her neighborhood. Then, a nearly 10-ft. alligator pulled her into the water.

Sources report that the reptile first tried to snatch a dog.

Serge passed away during the attack and was taken out of the water. Additionally, a nuisance alligator trapper caught and killed the alligator.

Wildlife officials say that critical injuries due to alligators are quite unusual.

Florida has close to 1.3 million alligators throughout the state. An alligator is said to be a nuisance if it is at least 4 feet long and thought to be a threat to individuals, pets, or property.
