A Florida man has been apprehended following nearly a year of investigation into allegations that he sexually assaulted an 8-year-old boy and transmitted HIV to him.
Bobby McAffee, 62, was taken into custody on May 30 after the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office stated he confessed to having sexual contact with the child.
During questioning, McAffee also acknowledged that he tested positive for HIV. The young victim recently received confirmation that he is also HIV positive.
Authorities launched the investigation after the victim reported the sexual assault on August 23, 2024.
According to the sheriff’s office, McAffee allegedly restrained the boy by pinning him to the ground, holding both of his arms above his head, and assaulting him.
McAffee faces a charge of sexual battery of a child under 12 years old. He was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on Saturday and is being held on a $250,000 bond.
