A mother in Florida is charged with murder after her son died while in her custody.
Rhonda Polynice, 41 years old, was arrested by the Saint Lucie County Sheriff’s Office and claims that she was instructed by God to carry out an exorcism on her 6-year-old son.
On May 30, a school resource officer at Samuel S. Gaines Academy requested a welfare check at a home on Bedford Drive in Fort Pierce around 10 a.m.
When authorities arrived, Polynice directed them to the room where her son was found deceased.
According to reports, the child had been dead for nearly 16 days. An autopsy was performed on Saturday; however, the medical examiner has not released any details due to an ongoing criminal investigation.
Polynice is charged with second-degree murder, failing to report a death, and intentionally touching or moving a body. She was denied bail during her initial court hearing on Saturday.
