Dallas Man Receives 38-Year Sentence in First Fentanyl Murder Case Under New Texas Law

On Tuesday, Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis announced that a 27-year-old man from Dallas has been sentenced to 38 years in prison for his role in a woman’s death following a fentanyl overdose.

The investigation originated in November 2023 when Collin County deputies responded to an overdose call in Blue Ridge, Texas. They found the woman unresponsive; despite administering multiple doses of Naloxone (Narcan), she was declared dead at the scene. Fentanyl pills and drug paraphernalia were recovered from the scene.

An in-depth investigation, including analysis of phone records, Instagram messages, Cash App transactions, and cellphone location data, helped reconstruct the events. Evidence revealed conversations about a fentanyl sale and tracked the victim’s trip from Collin County to a Dallas location connected to Honesty.

Following the sale, the woman returned home in Blue Ridge and was found dead less than 24 hours later. This case marks Collin County’s first prosecution of fentanyl delivery resulting in death as a murder under the county’s new fentanyl legislation.

During sentencing, testimony indicated that Honesty has been involved in drug trafficking since 2017 and continued selling fentanyl even after his March 2024 arrest and bond posting.

He was re-arrested in Grayson County on five additional drug charges, which led to the revocation of his bond in September 2024, and he has remained in custody while awaiting trial.
