A mother from San Antonio and her boyfriend are facing charges after police allege that the woman’s 2-year-old son was intentionally burned with boiling water by her boyfriend and remained untreated for several months.

According to the San Antonio Police Department, 32-year-old Tyreesha Robinson and 31-year-old Devien Wheeler were arrested and charged with injury to a child.

Court records show that between late May and early June, Robinson was boiling water to cook for herself and her other children.

Robinson reportedly told investigators she left the stove unattended to bathe with her two-year-old. After the bath, she went into an adjoining bathroom separated from the child. While she was away, Wheeler allegedly entered the bathroom and poured the remaining boiling water on the child, causing severe burns.

When Robinson heard her child’s screams, she rushed to the bathroom and saw the injuries. That’s when Wheeler allegedly fled the residence.

Fearing she might lose custody to Child Protective Services, Robinson reportedly declined to seek medical help for her child at the time and instead used a first aid kit to bandage the burns.

Emergency services were called on August 22, and records show the child had burns extending from the top of his head down to his lower torso, along with a partially healed broken arm that would likely require surgery to repair.

Both Robinson and Wheeler are charged with injury to a child. Wheeler is held on a $300,000 bond, while Robinson’s bond is set at $250,000.
