Isiah Roberts, 19, has been charged after a 9-year-old girl was fatally shot as a physical altercation took place. The incident occurred in a common area of an apartment complex in Trenton, New Jersey.
Roberts has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and two weapons charges.
On Friday night, close to 7:30 p.m, the brawl took place at Kingsbury Square apartments. Reports note that two women were fighting over a Facebook post. During that time, Roberts and another man began fighting.
Sequoya Bacon-Jones had been outside having fun with her brother. When she tried to run away from where the fighting was taking place, she was hit by a bullet.
When authorities responded to a call of shots fired, they found that Sequoya had been shot once.
The girl was transported to a medical facility where she succumbed to her wounds.
Police don’t believe that Sequoya was the person who was targeted, but the investigation is continuing.
There were no other reports of anyone else being hurt in the shooting.
