A Florida woman was arrested after she walked into a Walmart with a brick and started threatening employees and customers.
Around 1:30 p.m., Deputy Christopher Witte and Property Crimes Detective Pamela Thomas responded to the Walmart on South US Highway 441 in Summerfield, in regards to a woman threatening customers and store employees with a brick and a knife.
When officers arrived, they located Brandy McGowan,32 in the clothing department, wielding a pocket knife and making incoherent statements.
Deputy Witte repeatedly instructed McGowan to drop the knife, but she ignored those commands. Deputy Witte then deployed his taser at McGowan. She dropped her weapon and authorities were able to handcuff her.
During the investigation, officers learned that McGowan entered the business wielding a brick and began threatening customers. She then located a pocket knife for sale and began opening the packaging with a pair of scissors from the store.
Once the knife was open, she continued to threaten employees and customers until Deputy Witte and Detective Thomas arrived.
After McGowan was arrested, it was discovered that she was high on methamphetamine. She transported to an area hospital for evaluation.
Upon her release from the hospital, McGowan was transported to the Marion County Jail for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Her bond was set at $2,000.
