Grambling State University Head Volleyball Coach Cuts Everybody From The Team

A newly hired head volleyball coach at Grambling State University has cut all 19 current players from the team.

Chelsey Lucas was hired in February to guide the team to victory. After notifying administration that she would make changes, she made a brand new roster.

She informed all 19 players individually on April 4.

GSU Athletics Communications Director Brian Howard vouched for Coach Lucas’ changes. He noted that she has new quality players coming on board.

“Obviously, we don’t want them to be cut or lose their scholarships.” Howard explained, “At the end of the day, Coach Lucas has a goal… a vision as well to win and that’s first and foremost.”

Lucas, a 2007 Grambling alum, spent six seasons at two Southwestern Athletic Conference programs. She coached at UAPB for three years. Before joining UAPB, she was the head coach at Alcorn State from 2016 to 2018.

Some of the players who were cut from the team claim that Coach Lucas didn’t allow them to practice enough. They blame losing their scholarship on not being able to show her what they were capable of.
