The Dallas City Council voted to ease restrictions on food trucks and other mobile food vendors.
The new ordinance lowers fees for start-up food trucks and reduces code compliance checkups.
Previously, food trucks were only allowed to serve frozen, breaded, and fried chicken and seafood, with an exception for seafood that will be consumed raw. Now, food trucks only need to meet health code standards.
The most significant change, however, is the broader definition of what a food truck is. Non-motorized options such as covered trailers and shipping containers are now eligible to be a food truck.
Mayor Eric Johnson’s office stated that increasing the number of food trucks in Dallas was his top priority.
“Together, we are working to make Dallas more vibrant and more fun,” the mayor tweeted.
