Michael Todd Hill, from North Carolina, won a $10 million lottery, in 2017, after purchasing a scratch-off ticket at a gas station.
Now, Hill has been sentenced to life in prison for murder.
Hill is an ex-nuclear power plant worker who received over $4 million from his lottery settlement. He used the money to pay off his debts and invest in his wife’s instructional design company.
Now, over four years later, Hill, 54, has been found guilty of killing his younger girlfriend, Keonna Tavangela Graham, 24. The incident occurred in a hotel room, and housekeepers discovered her body on July 20, 2020.
On Friday, Hill was convicted of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Police say that Hill shot Graham in the back of the head as she was in bed at a SureStay Hotel in Shallotte, NC. Camera recordings show that Hill was the only person with Graham inside of the room.
At the time of the occurrence, a hotel employee stated that Hill was the one who checked in and no one had seen Graham. When the woman’s body was found, Hill hadn’t checked out, yet.
It was noted that the victim’s mother had reported her missing when she hadn’t arrived at work.
An autopsy report indicated that Graham and the man had physical altercations before. Hill admitted to killing Graham, citing that he had found her at the hotel texting other males. The couple had been together for over a year and a half subsequent to Hill winning the lottery.
It said Suhakam had visited the company’s facilities on Sept 27 to verify allegations of
forced labour and modern-day slavery as reported in a British
newspaper in June 2022.
