Ex-Dallas Cowboys Tight End Gavin Escobar Dies At 31 While Rock Climbing

Gavin Escobar, a former tight end player for the Dallas Cowboys, died during a rock climbing accident in California on Wednesday. He was one of two people who lost their lives during the occurrence.

Close to 12:30 p.m., 31-year-old Escobar and Chelsea Walsh, 33, were discovered deceased as the Riverside County Fire Department attempted to rescue them.They had been at Tahquitz Rock in the Idyllwild location.

The cause of their deaths is unknown at this time, and an investigation is continuing.

During the 2013 NFL Draft, Escobar was drafted by the Cowboys in the second round. He played a backup position for Dallas from 2013 to 2016. He went to high school in Orange County, California, and attended San Diego State University.

Following his football career, Escobar was a firefighter for the Long Beach Fire Department.

He leaves behind a wife and two children.
