As a pregnant woman attempted to rob individuals inside of a vehicle, she was fatally shot.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon, in the Belmont Cragin community of Chicago, in the 5200 block of West Montana Street.

Authorities stated that at about 1 p.m., the woman was struck by a bullet in the shoulder, back, and hand as she was in a vehicle and announced the robbery as gunshots were exchanged with someone outside of the vehicle.

The woman, identified as 21-year-old Genesis Escobar, was transported to a medical facility where she was declared deceased.

A recording of the incident depicts the woman being thrown into the intersection. Bystanders then came to her aid prior to police arriving to the location. A friend of the woman reported that the deceased was 7 months pregnant and that the baby didn’t survive the shooting either.

Prior to being taken to the ground, witnesses reported seeing the driver taking out money. He then threw it on top of the woman while she was on the ground.

No suspects are in custody at this time, and an investigation is continuing.
