‘BABY CATCHER’ OPENS LOUISIANA’S FIRST BLACK-OWNED BIRTH CENTER

1.8kviews

Baby Catcher Birth Center is planning to officially open its doors at the end of July!
Shatamia Webb, from Lafayette, said that she was skeptical at the time of giving birth. She didn’t want to arrive at the hospital and not be able to go home. So, she decided to have both of her children at home. Now, her goal is to assist expecting parents in building their confidence at delivery. Webb is a midwife and has performed home births for the last four years. It’s all about mothers knowing “what to expect at every stage of the journey,” she has said. The center will provide insight on topics that include breastfeeding education, nutrition, and labor support. Mothers will also be provided with check-ins during prenatal and postpartum periods. The CDC reports that Black women are three times more likely to die during childbirth.  Webb’s mission to change this narrative.
