A body found floating in the Houston Ship Channel Friday has been identified as 26 year old Delano Burkes, who has been missing since mid November.

Authorities were notified around 10:30 a.m. after people in a tugboat alerted them about the floating body.

Police contacted a dive team and they recovered the body.

Burkes was last seen in the Heights area stumbling out of a bar on November 13. His body was located about 15 miles from where he was last seen alive.

It was said that he was with some friends and one of them he hadn’t seen in awhile. The friend was driving Burkes car when they stopped and let him use the restroom. Surveillance footage shows Burkes stumbling around the area.

Authorities say Burkes was last seen around 1 a.m. on camera and have not said if foul play is suspected.

Medical Examiners are performing an autopsy to get his actual cause of death. Burkes case has been turned over to the Houston Homicide department.

Chief K.J. Deese said in a statement, “We do not have any information to suggest that he was drugged or slipped anything, (but) we can’t rule that out … not saying it didn’t happen.”
