Body Of Missing Texas National Guard Soldier, Bishop E. Evans, Found

The body of the missing National Guard soldier was found Monday.

Texas Army National Guard Specialist Bishop E. Evans, 22 went missing Friday near Eagle Pass while trying to help two migrants that appeared to be drowning while trying to cross the river from Mexico to the U.S.

The National Guard members as well as local law enforcement and dive teams searched around the clock for the missing soldier.

On Saturday the search had to come to a halt as the currents increased at a high pace.

Rep. Tony Gonzales’ office released a statement Monday morning stating they received a call from Border Patrol saying Evan’s body had been recovered.

He was assigned to Operation Lone Star.

Maj. Gen. Tom Suelzer, Adjutant General for Texas released a statement saying.

“We are devastated by the loss of a member of our Guard family. We recognize the selflessness of this heroic Soldier who put his life above others in service to our state and national security. The Texas Military Department sends our deepest condolences to the family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.”

The two migrants have been apprehended and remain in the custody of the the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol.
