Jose Alfredo Hernandez Campos , 27, was sprung out of the Reynosa, Tamaulipas jail on Tuesay. He is a high-ranking Gulf Cartel leader.

Law enforcement is searching for the fugitive after an armed gang, dressed in military attire, stormed a holding location. They assisted in his escape.

The incident took place after the Gulf Cartel leader, Cesar “Primito,” Morfin, said he would give authorities $1million to free Hernandez Campos. The police denied the offer.

It has been reported that at least 30 men, with rifles, barged in and restrained security prior to putting Hernandez Campos in an ambulance and leaving.

Security attempted to pursue the fleeing vehicle, but were shot at. Security shot back,  killing one person and apprehending another. However, Hernandez  Campos was not in the vehicle.

Hernandez Campos is suspected of drug trafficking and trafficking undocumented migrants across the US-Mexico border.

The border routes are notorious for smuggling drugs and migrants.
