On April 13, Eligio Bishop was apprehended in Greater Decatur, Georgia. He is accused of operating a polygamist culture named Carbon Nation.
Authorities had gotten a complaint on March 30.
Officers executed a search warrant at a location in Decatur. Afterwards, Bishop was arrested and taken into custody. He is charged with Rape, False Imprisonment, and Prohibition on Nude or Sexually Explicit Electronic Transmissions.
“Because of those charges, I am not able to set a bond in your case,” the judge told Bishop during his first court hearing on Friday.
“Outstanding,” Bishop responded back.
Documents state that the cult “believes in nudism, refraining from bathing, and defecating on trees.” It was also noted that Bishop called himself God and Nature Boy.
Bishop, 38, is accused of forcing his followers to give him their money, credit cards, bank accounts, and pin numbers prior to worshipping.
Erikka Carroll said that the group formed to make a positive change, but then it turned into something else. Mental and verbal abuse occurred often, but Bishop was only physically abusive to his wives, she says.
Carroll added that Bishop has brainwashed and treated women poorly although they trusted him.
When some of his followers learned of his arrest, they stated that Bishop had been targeted by a former member. They expressed that Bishop is their God.
Additionally, they say that members who were involved in sexual activities were all adults, and they consented.
