Dallas Jury Awards $860 Million To The Family Of Kiersten Smith Who Died In Construction Crane Incident

2kviews

The family and estate of Kiersten Smith has been awarded $860 million by a Dallas jury. Smith died after a construction crane fell on the Elan City Lights apartment complex as a storm ensued in 2019.

As the trial had gone on, attorneys for the family stated that the crane had been in a rigid position while a windstorm took place and couldn’t “weathervane.” This is described as not being able to point into the wind.

Attorneys also expressed that other construction cranes in Dallas held up during the same storm without there being any issues.

Smith was the only person who lived in the complex that lost their life when the crane collapsed during the storm. Five other people were hurt, and dozens were left without a place to reside.

Relatives of Smith and the family’s lawyer have expressed their gratitude that companies,  Greystar and Gabriella Tower, were held accountable for their recklessness and negligence.
