An Indianapolis Sheriff’s Deputy died after she and her son were attacked by a dog at their home on Wednesday.
46-year-old Temeika White, a deputy with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office since 2007, and her 8-year-old son were bit by the dog at around 7:45 Wednesday evening.
Officers responded to the residence and came in contact with the dog upon entry. According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Officers, they deployed their service weapon after the dog charged toward them, fatally striking the animal.
Officials say that White, who was pronounced deceased at the scene, was not the owner of the deceased dog and that 3 other dogs and a cat were impounded from the residence following the incident.
The 8-year-old boy suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The owner of the dog’s identity has not been released.
