Joaquin Romero, 34, was an employee at La Jolla Indian Campground. He died two days after he fell while attempting to assist a customer.
On Saturday, Romero was working at the receiving platform at the Zip Zoom Zipline. He plummeted when he was helping a customer zipline that was sliding back out onto the line as she was trying to get hooked. When he couldn’t stop her, he grabbed onto her harness to help her back to where it was safe.
However, both of them were pulled off the platform into the middle of the zipline, hanging about 100 feet above the ground. A friend thinks that Romero let go on purpose so that the line didn’t break and both of them would be hurt.
On Monday, after receiving several blunt force injuries, Romero passed away.
The zip line attraction advertises that it is the longest course in the southern part of California and goes as fast as 55 mph.
