Eviction Moratorium Blocked By The Supreme Court

1.5kviews

Late Thursday evening The Supreme Court blocked a recent order put in place to ban evictions across the country.

During Trump’s presidency an eviction moratorium was put in place to protect citizens during the pandemic. After this eviction ban expired, President Biden’s administration created a new order through the CDC.

This new order banned evictions from August 3rd to October 3rd. The Supreme Court, however, claims the CDC does not have the power to do this without authorization from Congress.

The eviction moratorium is currently no longer allowed to be used in civil court cases.

Roughly 3.5 million Americans facing eviction were protected under this moratorium.
