Balenciaga, a fashion powerhouse, has decided to cut ties with Kanye West after he has posted several antisemitic posts and other controversial statements.
“Balenciaga has no longer any relationship nor any plans for future projects related to this artist,” noted Kerig, Balenciaga’s parent company.
Earlier this year, Ye teamed up with Balenciaga for a well-known line, Yeezy Gap. In June 2020, Gap first stated that they had a 10-year deal with the rapper for the Yeezy Gap brand. However, last month, West said that he wasn’t working with Gap anymore because of “substantial noncompliance.”
Reports indicate that West and Balenciaga had a tight relationship and that he and creative director, Demna Gvasalia, would text numerous times a day. However, Gvasalia and Cedric Charbit, Balenciaga’s chief executive, were in attendance at the Paris fashion show where West wore one of his controversial line of “White Lives Matter” shirts.
To add, West posted a now-deleted tweet that read that he was “going death con 3 [sic] On Jewish People.”
In recent days, Ye says that he has plans to own Parler, a far-right social platform, to avoid having to “fear being removed from social media, again.”
At the beginning of this month, Ye’s Twitter and Instagram accounts were restricted for violating policies, containing the antisemitic remarks.
