Father Convicted Of Killing His 9-Year-Old Disabled Son

A jury in St. Louis, Missouri, has found a father guilty of first-degree murder in the presumed death of his son.

In June 2003, Christian Ferguson had gone missing. The morning that he had vanished, his father, Dawan Ferguson, had called authorities from a pay phone. He told them that a carjacker had taken his car with his son still inside of it.

The 9-year-old boy suffered from an unusual metabolic condition and couldn’t walk or talk. He was required to have his correct medication or he would die within 48 hours. The boy’s body has never been located, and he is thought to be dead.

The trial lasted all week beginning last Monday. Relatives, law enforcement officers, and caretakers spoke in court. Two days prior to the disappearance, a judge ordered Dawan to allow his former wife to see their son. The mother hadn’t seen Christian in three months, and home health care money was running out.

The defense stated that there wasn’t enough proof to show that Dawan caused the death of Christian Ferguson without a reasonable doubt.

The judge denied the motion for Dawan Ferguson to be acquitted. He will have to serve a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Ferguson is also facing charges for rape, sodomy, and child molestation in another matter. He will appear in court for that in August.
