A family in Virginia is coping with the loss of one relative in a car crash. Then, not even a week later, they lost another family member to a fatal shooting.

On May 9, Ciera Berry, 28, was killed on I-95 in Springfield, VA. As she attempted to switch lanes, she struck two cars and went off the roadway. Her Nissan Sentra caught on fire while she was still inside of the vehicle after hitting a wall. A passenger, Crystal Nelson, was rescued, but Ciera couldn’t be pulled from the car.

Six days following that, Ciera’s father, Miles Hall, 52, was fatally shot at a Dumfries.

Ciera Berry was a mother of nine children. Their ages range from 2-months old to 12-years-old.

Virgina State Police think that speed and driver distraction could have led to the accident. Additionally, Berry and Nelson didn’t have their seat belts on at the time of the crash, officials say.

Berry’s mother, Lisa Winslow, is pleading for people to monitor their speed while driving. She also urges drivers to pay attention to individuals driving close to them.

On Saturday, Berry will be laid to rest. Her family has created a GoFundMe page to assist with her funeral expenses.

The crash is still being investigated.

Miles Hall’s killer is still being sought. Prince William County detectives say that a SUV was observed leaving the scene of the crime. Furthermore, it seems that the killing was an isolated incident, police say.
