Former Kansas City Police Chief Pleads Guilty To Assaulting A Man Accused Of Drowning His Infant Daughter

A former Kansas City police chief plead guilty to assaulting a man that threw his infant daughter in an icy pond.

Greg Hallgrimson,51 plead guilty in a federal court Wednesday.
He was indicted back in 2019 on a single count of violating the civil rights of Jonathon Zicarelli.

In December of 2018 Zicarelli walked into a police station and told officers he had thrown his 6 month old daughter in a nearby pond.

Hallgrimson and another officer rushed to the pond to find the infant floating face up.

They immediately recovered her from the pond and worked to revive her until paramedics arrived.

The baby was rushed to an area hospital where she was treated for severe hypothermia.

As a result Zicarelli was handcuffed, thrown to the ground and punched in the face by Hallgrimson.

Hallgrimson was placed on administrative leave shortly after the assault.

However, he resigned in May of 2019.

Zicarelli remains in Jackson County jail on felony domestic assault and child abuse.
