Garland Police Chase Leaves One Woman Dead

A person is in custody after evading arrest and crashing into a car and killing a woman.
The incident happened Sunday afternoon around 3:30pm in Garland.

According to reports a black Honda Accord was pulled over for a traffic violation near Shiloh and Northwest Hwy.
Some time during the stop the officer saw signs of narcotics inside the vehicle and the driver sped off in high rates of speed.

The officer attempted to catch the vehicle but lost sight near Garland Ave.
Another officer in the area noticed the car speeding and also attempted to stop it.

An officer that was on Garland Ave saw the vehicle approach the red light and tried to alert other drivers to move out the way.

The driver of the Honda entered the intersection while the light was red striking a silver Toyota that was traveling westbound on Miller Rd.

It then struck a second vehicle, a black Honda CRV, that was at the red light.

The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene and her 10 year old son was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the Honda CRV was treated for minor injuries and released at the scene.

However the three occupants in the Honda Accord were also transported to an area hospital for minor injuries.

The driver of the Honda Accord was identified as Bobby Lee Murphy,37 who remains in the hospital but is facing charges of evading arrest, and the death of the woman in the Honda.

The deceased woman driving the Toyota was later identified as Karla Rico,28.
The investigation is ongoing.
