Governor Abbott Request For SNAP Recipients To Be Able To Use Benefits For Take Out And Drive Thru Food Orders

7.6kviews

Governor Greg Abbott is asking the government to allow SNAP users to be allowed to use their benefits at restaurant takeout and drive thru food orders.
Governor Abbott along with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission sent a letter to the US Department of Agriculture Tuesday.
If approved this would help families during this pandemic and allow another food source for some Texans that aren’t able to purchase and cook their own food.
“As we continue in our efforts to combat COVID-19, the state must do everything it can to make life more manageable for citizens and ensure that Texans can provide meals for their families,” said Governor Abbott. “This waiver will go a long way in doing just that. I urge the federal government to quickly approve this waiver, giving Texans another food option during this public health emergency.”
The USDA said in a statement Wednesday that they are reviewing the states request.
