Andrew Dodson, a high school football player from Kentucky, sustained a head wound while playing in a scrimmage last week. Now, he has died.

On Monday, it was announced that the Kentucky High School Athletic Association, relatives, friends, and teammates were mourning the death of the Pulaski County High School varsity player.

Dodson’s father said that his son had been running with the ball when a teammate tackled him.

“It was not a violent hit or helmet-to-helmet. It was a simple, clean tackle. His head hit the turf, and Andrew suffered blunt-force trauma to the brain,” his father explained.

Reports indicate that Dodson was a tight end and an defensive end for the school during his junior season.
