Hobby Lobby, the arts and crafts store, has acknowledged its minimum wage will increase to $18.50 an hour for full-time workers. This will begin on January 1, 2022.

The company had previously provided their full-time employees $15 an hour, something they began in 2014.

The federal minimum wage has consistently been set to $7.25 per hour. However, many U.S. cities, states, and counties have taken the initiative to raise the pay of workers on their own.

“..there is basically no state, city, county, or region in the country where workers can survive on $7.25,” stated Yannet Lathrop, senior researcher at the law project.

With Hobby Lobby’s increase in the wages of its employees, it will place them $7.50 over Walmart’s, the nation’s biggest employer. Additionally, it will put them $3.50 above Amazon’s and Target’s.

Hobby Lobby, which was established in 1972, has close to 1,000 retails stores located in the U.S.
