House Bill Introduced Could Ban Violent Protestors From Receiving Unemployment Benefits
House Republican Jim Banks announced a new bill Friday that would stop violent protestors from receiving unemployment benefits.
It’s called the “Support Peaceful Protest Act” and it targets those who have been arrested for violence, looting or vandalism at a protest. The bill also says that rioters should have to pay for the cost of federal policing and be ineligible for unemployment assistance.
Banks introduced the bill after a couple was harassed by protesters while leaving President Trump’s nomination acceptance speech at the White House Thursday.
Banks believes that people participate in the violent protest because they are unemployed and receive government benefits.
He wants to make people be held accountable for their actions and know there are consequences.
