Jamie Jaramillo Charged With Capital Murder of Officer Richard Houston

The man accused of killing a Mesquite police officer a week ago has been discharged from the hospital and charged with capital murder of a peace officer.

The incident occurred on December 3, at an Albertsons parking lot near Cartwright Rd.

Officers responded to a disturbance call at the location. When they arrived the suspect, Jamie Jaramillo opened fire striking Officer Richard Houston II before turning the gun on himself.

Both the officer and the suspect were transported to an area hospital where Houston was pronounced dead.

Jaramillo was hospitalized and treated for his injuries. He has since been transported to Dallas County jail and booked into the North Tower.

His bond is set at $2 million.
