Man Accused Of Shooting Burleson Police Officer In Custody

The suspect accused of shooting a Burleson police officer was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Gainesville, Texas.
According to reports a Blue Alert was issued for Jerry Don Elders,39 this morning after he shot a Burleson police officer during a traffic stop multiple times.
The officer was transported to John Peter Smith hospital in Fort Worth by fellow officers with his condition unknown.
Elders was arrested and is facing multiple charges including aggravated assault on a peace officer.
The shooting happened around 4:15am on the 1100 block of Hillside Dr near Burleson high school.
The officer was performing a traffic stop and as he approached the passenger side of the vehicle Elders opened fire striking the officer multiple times.
Burleson Police Chief Billy Cordell said the officer was wearing a protective vest at the time of the shooting.
A Blue Alert was issued for Elders who was spotted in Denton County along Interstate 35.
As officers attempted to stop the vehicle the occupants inside attempted to flee on foot and hide in a wooded area.
They were arrested without incident and taken into custody.
The investigation remains ongoing and the motive behind the shooting still remains unclear.
