Man Confesses To Raping, Killing Former Girlfriend’s 12-Year-Old Daughter And Stuffing Her Body In Freezer
A man in Pennsylvania confessed to raping and killing his former girlfriend’s 12-year-old daughter last week. This was prior to putting her body in a freezer.
39-year-old Jason Shackelford made the admission after police answered to a call relating to a domestic disturbance, involving him and the girl’s mother at a hotel in Lancaster.
He is said to have told authorities that he attacked and killed Elaina Smith in her residence last Wednesday evening while her mother was at work.
The mother told police that she and Shackelford were in the middle of a break up, and she had requested that he leave the home.
When the mother got back from work on Thursday morning, Shackelford told her that he had abducted Elaina and drove her to New York where he vowed that she was safe.
The mother then told police that Shackelford attacked and sexually assaulted her prior to making her go to a nearby hotel, citing her daughter’s well-being as leverage. When they arrived to the hotel, the mother stated that he raped her again and then allowed her to go outside to smoke a cigarette. As the mother was outside, she got the attention of hotel workers and asked them to call police.
Prosecutors said that once Shackelford was in custody, he confessed to killing Elaina. After the home was searched, Elaina’s remains were discovered in a basement freezer. An autopsy revealed that she died from strangulation.
Shackelford is facing a criminal homicide charge, and more charges could follow.
