Dallas police are investigating after a man fatally shot him self at a Laquinta Inn on Christmas morning.
Dallas Fire and Rescue responded to a health and welfare check call on the 8600 block of E. RL Thornton Freeway around 11:14am.
As they began to try and enter the motel room they heard a loud gunshot from inside. They immediately backed away and contacted Dallas police.
Officers arrived and contacted SWAT, who responded and started negotiating with the occupant. SWAT and the male occupant inside negotiated for about 5 hours before communication stopped.
After multiple failed attempts to make contact with the occupant SWAT forced their way into the room.
Once inside they found a male occupant deceased from a self inflicted gunshot wound.
No further information has been released at this time.
