On Thursday, Charles Nakoff, of Cleveland, Ohio, was given 30 years in federal prison. This comes after he sexually assaulted a 4-year-old girl and recorded it. He was also found with a collection of child pornography.
The judge added that Nakoff will stay on post-prison release supervision for the remainder of his life. He will have to pay a $127,500 fine and register as a sex offender.
Nakoff, 34, sat in court with his head down. He told the judge that there was no excuse for his behavior. He added that he has a better understanding after getting treated for mental health issues while in custody.
After pleading guilty to three child-pornography charges and one count of sexual exploitation of a child, prosecutors wanted a life sentence.
Because he suffered from bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder, Nakoff’s lawyer sought a sentence of 9 to 11 years. The attorney added that Nakoff had endured horrible experiences as a child, including seeing sexual and physical abuse.
In 2020, Nakoff, who served in the U.S. Army Reserves, was arrested. This came after an online tip was received regarding child pornography. Then, three recordings of him raping a 4-year-old girl were located.
