20-year-old Bobby N. Truitt II, has been sentenced to 67 years in prison after brutally killing his great-aunt in 2020.

On Tuesday, Truitt received his sentence in Columbus, Indiana, for 64-year-old Sharon Lovins’ death.

In March, he pleaded guilty to one count of murder and one count of abuse of a corpse.

On September 26, 2020, Lovins had bailed Truitt out of jail. He had been held for sexual battery charges. She provided a place for him stay. However, authorities say that the next day, he fatally attacked her.

“She was beaten to death with a hammer by someone whom she loved and cared for. We’ll probably never know why,” stated the judge in the case.

After murdering Lovins, Truitt drove her vehicle to Indianapolis. He then attempted to purchase a bus ticket to New York by panhandling. He was then apprehended.

Truitt had initially been charged with Lovins’ murder and rape, and theft of her car. Because of the plea, other charges were dropped or lessened.

Truitt’s lawyers blamed his rough childhood for his actions. However, the judge dismissed this idea.

Truitt never stated why he murdered his great-aunt. While speaking in court, he said that her killing was “inhuman” and would take it back if he could.
