Man Shot And Killed Behind A Dallas Convenience Store

On Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at approximately 2:59 a.m., patrol officers responded to a shooting call in the 2300 block of 2nd Avenue. 
Upon arrival, officers found the victim, Raylon Kyon Jones,38 in a wooded area behind a groceries beer & wine store on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds.  Dallas Fire-Rescue responded and transported the victim to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased from his injuries.   
During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the suspect, a 48 year old black male, was involved in a verbal dispute, and it escalated into a physical confrontation with a male witness.  During the physical fight, the suspect assaulted a female witness, who attempted to stop the fight.  
The victim intervened, and the suspect shot him multiple times.  After the shooting, the suspect left the scene in his vehicle, and was subsequently taken into custody in the 5700 block of Bexar Street.  The suspect was transported to Baylor Hospital for his injuries.  Several witnesses were transported to Homicide for interviews.  One of the witnesses was also shot and treated at the scene.  The suspect will be charged with assault misdemeanor A, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and murder.  Because the suspect remains in the hospital and has not been formally charged, we are unable to release his name at this time.  The next of kin notification has been made.  This investigation is ongoing.
