A man in China has been ordered to jail for stealing from his ex-girlfriend’s bank account.
The suspect, only known as Huang, 28, was said to have stolen $23,500 from his ex’s account by activating the facial recognition option on her phone and transferring the money to his account. He was able to do so by raising her eyelids while she was asleep.
In December 2020, Huang requested that he meet with his ex to discuss the $9,400 she loaned him when they were a couple. When the woman went to his house, Huang offered to cook a meal for her and provide medicine because she felt ill.
The victim stated that subsequent to taking the medicine, she fell asleep. When the woman discovered that her money was gone, she contacted authorities.
The man has now received 3 1/2 years in prison for the offense and a $3,000 fine.
