In December, Matthew Mireles was convicted of interfering with a police service animal, evading arrest, and multiple charges of aggravated assault on a public servant.

All of these convictions stem from the fatal shooting of Bexar County, Texas, Sheriff’s Officer, K-9 Chucky.

Now, Mireles has been sentenced to life in prison.

The incident happened as police attempted to pull over Mireles in Karnes County for a routine traffic stop. However, Mireles led police on a chase into Bexar County and then got away on foot.

Mireles fired a weapon many times at officers and then fired at Chucky. The Belgian Malinois, 5, had been used to attempt to detain Mireles.

As Mireles was receiving his punishment, it was shown that since Mireles has been in custody, he has been found with two shanks. Additionally, he has two pending counts of deadly weapon charges not related to this incident.

A deputy also provided more information, including the fact that Mireles was a lieutenant associated with the Mexican Mafia.
