McDonald’s CEO Is Criticized Over “Racists” Text To Chicago’s Mayor

A small protest took place outside of McDonald’s headquarters on Wednesday.

The CEO sent what some woud call “racists and ignorant” text messages to Chicago’s mayor back in April.

“p.s. tragic shootings, in last week, both at our restaurant and with Adam Toledo [sic]. With both, the parents failed those kids which I know is something you can’t say. Even harder to fix,” CEO Chris Kempczinski texted.

The messages were revealed on Tuesday. Kempczinski sent them after Mayor Lori Lightfoot stopped by headquarters. The messages were seemingly talking about Jaslyn Adam’s, 7, who was shot and killed while in a car at a McDonald’s in Chicago.

They also seem to be referring to Adam Toledo, shot and killed by Chicago police the month before.

“Not taking the time to think about this from their viewpoint was wrong and lacked the empathy and compassion I feel for these families. This is a lesson I will carry with me,” Kempczinski said in a letter to his staff.
