A mechanic was killed as he was test-driving a customer’s vehicle in Decatur, Georgia.

24-year-old Daniel Gordon was fatally shot where he worked at Tires Plus on Saturday afternoon. Authorities say that the customer thought that Gordon was someone who had been attempting to steal his vehicle.

30-year-old Quandarious McDowell, the customer, was denied bond on Monday. Authorities say that he dropped his vehicle off to have work done on his brakes at about 1:30 p.m. He then fatally shot Gordon as he came back to get his car.

McDowell has been charged with malice murder.

“I don’t understand. He saw him in uniform. He’s got his bag with the work order in it and everything to test-drive the vehicle. Why would you think anything different? It was a test drive,” said one employee.

McDowell was silent as he appeared in court Monday. He will remain in custody until the case goes to superior court.
