After a grandmother was discovered deceased in a residence in Landover, Michigan, a mother and daughter were apprehended.

On Friday, a welfare check was conducted on Margaret Craig, 71. This came after authorities received information that the woman hadn’t been seen in a few days.

When police arrived to the home, Craig’s daughter, 44-year-old Candace Craig, answered the door. She let the officers in, and they quickly identified the smell of decomposition in the basement.

Detectives then found that Candace Craig was said to have killed her mother on May 23rd. Additionally, Candace’s daughter, 19-year-old Salia Hardy, is accused of attempting to assist in discarding her grandmother’s remains.

Officials have reported that Candace Craig has been charged with first and second-degree murder. Hardy is facing a charge of accessory after the fact.

A medical examiner is now working to determine Margaret Craig’s cause of death as authorities try to determine a motive for the killing.
