Jellisa Baxter, 24, is facing charges after authorities say that she called 911 to state that she had fatally stabbed her 3-year-old daughter.
Baxter was apprehended on Tuesday morning, a report from the North Miami Beach Police Department in Florida noted.
She first told police that she attempted to strangle the child inside of her apartment but was unsuccessful. Thus, she stabbed her several times.
The child was declared deceased on the scene. She had noticeable wounds to her chest, neck, and face. A knife was found close to the child’s body on the floor.
Baxter was still on the scene when police arrived and was arrested.
Records show that she wasn’t working and had received an eviction notice a few days ago.
Baxter has been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse. She is in custody at the Miami-Dade County Jail with no bail. She also has an immigration hold out of Jamaica.
