An 11-year-old boy was shot and killed during a road rage incident in Nevada on Friday morning.

The event took place around 7:30 a.m. on westbound Interstate 215 near Gibson Road, when two vehicles became involved in a confrontation. As they tried to pass each other amidst heavy traffic, one vehicle attempted to pass on the shoulder. This led both drivers to roll down their windows and exchange words.

According to authorities, the suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Matthew Johns, then drew a handgun and opened fire into the other vehicle, hitting the backseat where the young boy was seated. The child was quickly transported to a nearby hospital but later died from his injuries.

A Las Vegas Metropolitan police officer apprehended Johns, charging him with murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. His bail has been set at $20,000.
