Chuck Mangione, the renowned Rochester jazz musician famous for hits such as “Feels So Good,” has passed away at the age of 84.
The news was announced in a statement from a Rochester-based funeral home on behalf of Mangione’s family, who said, “We are deeply saddened to share that Chuck peacefully passed away in his sleep at his Rochester home on July 22.”
A Rochester native, Mangione attended Benjamin Franklin High School before studying at the Eastman School of Music, where he graduated in 1963. He later returned to lead the school’s jazz ensemble from 1968 to 1972.
He received his first Grammy Award in February 1977 for Best Instrumental Composition for “Bellavia,” followed by his second Grammy in February 1979 for Best Pop Instrumental Performance for “Children of Sanchez.”
Mangione also appeared in a recurring role on the Fox animated series *King of the Hill*, debuting in 1997. In the show, he played himself as a celebrity spokesman for the fictional “Mega Lo Mart,” often turning any song into “Feels So Good” as a comedic running gag.
He was inducted into the Rochester Music Hall of Fame as part of its inaugural class in 2012.
